Join us this autumn, winter and spring for our hand crafted food and culture holiday which will make you fall in love with all that the beautiful Algarve has to offer. When cooking the traditional fish cataplana after a trip to the coast, a local game casserole after a walk in the mountain, making your own piri-piri to take home and baking your chouriço bread in the village oven, you’ll learn all the local foodie secrets and hear stories from generations of amazing local producers. All this escorted by our knowledgeable guide, some gentle walking, cycling or without transport.

With a discount for groups over four, you will have the quinta all to yourselves. This is the perfect way to experience our beautiful part of the world and to get your teeth into the food and culture of Portugal. There are several food festivals throughout the year.

A detailed itinerary will be confirmed nearer the time of your trip, but you can expect to enjoy the following activities.

Cooking Lessons:

You will be taught by a local chef how to create traditional Portuguese dishes using fresh locally-sourced ingredients. Some of the recipes you will tackle include:

  • Cataplana: Learn how to use a cataplana and deliver an unforgettable meal using local fish or pork
  • Migas: Create this delicious dish that adds garlic and olive oil to leftover bread to make a fantastic accompaniment to meat dishes.
  • Meat dishes: Local game; wild boar with prunes and honey glazed partridge with cherries will be on the menu. Learn how to make your own bacon and get a step-by-step chorizo-making demonstration.
  • Bread making: Bake your very own bread in the village oven. While waiting for your bread to prove, you can explore the surroundings of the village and enjoy a glass of wine. You can flavour your bread with olives, rosemary, chorizo or cumin seeds.
  • Vegetables and fruit:  are in abundance. Enjoy a trip to Aljezur market. Meeting up for a coffee with one of the farmers. While you shop for dinner. In the winter months we take a mushroom walk where you can learn about the different types of local mushrooms, which ones to pick and how to choose the best ones for cooking.
  • Medronho: No trip to Monchique is ever complete without seeing our firewater being made from the arbutus tree and sampling a few glasses.

Dine on your creations from your cooking classes at the quinta and enjoy an evening together trying all the local dishes hosted by our best tradition restaurant.
You will be provided with some ‘welcoming fizz’, a hamper for your breakfasts and 2 picnic lunches over the course of the holiday.
All ingredients for the lessons are provided. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to shop for any additional needs. All meals taken in restaurants are at your own cost.

We will take you on a guided walk or downhill cycle through the stunning scenery of the Monchique mountain range as part of your holiday.

There is also plenty of free time for you to spend how you wish. There are lots of activities you can do in the area and your hosts can recommend.

  • Take one of the beautiful walking routes around the serene mountainous area.
  • Browse the craft shops in the village.
  • Visit the 16th century Manueline church and take coffee with the locals.
